Doing Business in Northern Ontario
Ever wonder how trade happens within Canada with the First Nations communities. Apparently, winter is the high season for moving goods!
For most of the year business relies on shipping goods using either Canada Post which is very expensive or entering into special arrangements with private airlines. However, in the winter, they build ice roads! Yes, ice roads for transportation trucks and other vehicles, which makes moving goods and even people very convenient. This is what I learned spending an evening with Anita Isaac of Creating. She describes her business model simply as “Doing business with products and people she loves!â€. She has broken most of the old barriers in doing business with the First Nations by levelling the playing field and setting fair prices. Anita just moved her store from Thunder Bay to Winnipeg. We wish her well in her new setup and city.
