Quote from one of our contestant winners of a Stefani Water Purifier from LifeSpices:
“Rec’d water purifer today, and I love it already. Water lines here are flushed periodically, so yesterday when I went to take a bath, the water was literally brown. So today, when the unit arrived, I immediately assembled it and filled it with water. Now my daughter and her boyfriend are enjoying clean, fresh water to drink and cook with! This is an amazing appliance, and I will brag it up to everybody I know!” – D. Friedal, May 10th, 2007, Truro, Nova Scotia

The response to the survey is AMAZING!! However, some people have forgotten to provide their phone numbers…its the only way I can determine which region of Canada you are from.

The water purifier certainly sounds like it would be great. I am curious if the water comes out cold, or if you have to leave some in a jog in the refrigerator.

Hi, Cliff: The water remains cool but not cold as in refrigerated cold. The purifiers get more efficient over time in keeping the “coolness” as it matures due to the natural properties of terr cotta allowing evaporation.
I took a drink out of these at the Stefani factory floor where the temparatures are well over 35 deg C. The water felt cool and just right.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick response. It is interesting that as the terr cotta ages that it gets more efficient. This is something I would definitely be interested in owning.

My husband was just telling about this product. How would you clean it out and how often. I am wondering if it would develope mildew or mould.

Joyce:
Great question! There is 2 parts to the answer:
1) you can clean the top and bottom chambers with a scrub brush as often as required (no soap or chemicals) including the ceramic filter which sits in the top chamber and lasts 4-6 months depending on consumption.
2) The bottom unit is further protected with a coat of silver colloidal that inhibits bacterial growth.
Terra Cotta has been in use in many parts of the world for ages. It acted as the “fridge” for the older civilizations. The Italians used it to keep food and ferment special wines, the Indians and many parts of Central America still use it for keeping food and water fresh and cool most of them without the advanced filtering technology these come with.
By the way, the purifiers will soon be available online in our marketplace soon to be launched.
Hope this helps!

Guy says:
I purchased a Stefani water purifier several months ago. Ever since there has been a white mildewy substance that builds on the outside of the Terra Cotta every few days after I clean it. Basically, I clean it off with a clean cloth and 2-3 days later the mildewy substance reappears.
My questions are:
1. What is this substance? Could it be mildew?
2. Does it affect the quality/safety of the water?
Besides that, the water does taste very good and the temperature of the water is perfect.

Hello Guy:
This is a good question. The white stuff is calcium and other mineral deposits as the water evaporates from the porous clay chambers. The evaporation process is also what keeps the water cool. You are doing the right thing in terms of maintenance. This product requires maintenance through regular cleaning as clay is natural. We also recommend all components (taps etc) when it is time to change filter. If you are a user of the Traditional or Linea we recommend you place the unit on a metal or solid wood trivet to improve circulation around the unit. Hope this helps!
